Spring Spectacular 2023

Dear Parents,

Our spotlight this week is on Grade 4 and Year 5 students across ISG.  Please click here to take a look at how they learn.

Students from ASD’s Model United Nations (MUN) club held the 17th rendition of Dhahran Model United Nations last weekend. With over 300 participants from all across the Kingdom, students modeled as delegates of UN member states educating themselves on the world and its issues in the largest high school conference of its type in the Eastern Province.  DHAMUN XVII had 11 committees ranging from the Commission on Science and Technology, the Human Rights Council, the International Court of Justice and the historical Ottoman Imperial Council, to name a few.  Each had unique, well-studied topics of their own that challenged delegates to think deeper and go above and beyond.  MUN is a fun and enriching experience. Students that participate learn about current world affairs, understand the value of collaboration, demonstrate leadership, and learn all about writing clauses, making amendments and passing resolutions.

ISG Jubail held their annual Spring Spectacular last week which was fun and memorable.  Families, teachers and students came together to share culture, food, activities, games and live performances.  Please click here to watch a recap of the day.

At Sara Village School, Mr. Kennedy's assembly provided an engaging introduction to Aesop's fables, which are still relevant today and carry important messages.  Using traditional storytelling techniques, Mr. Kennedy brought to life classic tales like The Boys and the FrogsThe Dog and the Meat, and The Boy Who Cried Wolf, captivating the children with his animated delivery and character voices.  Overall, the SVS students had an enriching experience that allowed them to connect with the past and learn important lessons that can be applied in their lives today.

The Year 1 class assembly was based around the theme of Superheroes and Learning Powers.  The children talked about their strengths and what made them super.  They decided that their four learning powers are: resourcefulness, reflectiveness, resilience and responsiveness, which are all wonderful and necessary skills for the future.

Last weekend, 38 of BSD’s Duke of Edinburgh participants enjoyed their expedition through the landscapes of Judah.  The students demonstrated great teamwork and resilience in addition to an improvement in their camp-craft skills.  The highlight of the trip featured bonfires, music, singing and group games. Their greatest outcome however, was their ability to overcome challenges with happiness and enthusiasm.

The P.E. Games were the first event of the ASD House Cup that started this week and it was an incredible success.  The students were fully invested into the four houses Camel (White), Falcon (Green), Dolphin (Gold) and Oryx (Blue).  Five hundred students from elementary and middle school participated in the games that included the Egg and Spoon Race, Human Bowling, Dodgeball and Tug-of-War.  There are three more events planned for the year before the House Cup Winners are announced:  Inter-House WOW Week Challenge, Inter-House Track & Field Meet and Inter-House Swimming Gala.  Please click here to watch a recap of the day.

I would like to announce that school hours during Ramadan will be 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. for all ISG students. We will begin operating with the new adjusted schedule on March 19, 2023.

I would like to remind you that February 22 is a scheduled holiday in Saudi Arabia to celebrate Founding Day.  ISG schools will be closed on February 23 to be aligned with other schools in the Kingdom.  Also, Spring Break across all our schools will be between February 24 - March 4.  Classes will resume on March 5, 2023.

Best wishes,

Michael P. Mack
